Honda viert 50 jaar motorcross in Arroyomolinos
Honda viert vijf decennia motocrossgeschiedenis en onthult vandaag een eerbetoon aan die prestigieuze geschiedenis met een unieke CRF450R, die dit weekend wordt bereden tijdens de MXGP van Spanje.
50 jaar na het debuut van de 1973 CR250M Elsinore – Honda’s eerste motorcrossmachine – zullen Tim Gajser en Mitch Evans van Team HRC op het Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos-circuit rijden met een speciale look. De machines krijgen de look uit de jaren ’80 die herinneringen oproepen aan de iconische CR-modellen die toen erg dominant waren in het wereldkampioenschap.
Honda’s succes in de motorcross begon in 1973 toen Gary Jones – aan boord van de CR250M Elsinore – het AMA 250 Motocross Kampioenschap won. Sindsdien is Honda steeds succesvoller geworden en won het wereldkampioenschappen in 125cc, 250cc, 500cc in de jaren 70, 80 en 90.
Meer recentelijk is Tim Gajser de meest succesvolle rijder in de geschiedenis van Honda geworden. Hij won zijn 39e GP overall tijdens de MXGP van Italië dit jaar op de nieuwste Honda CRF450R. De Sloveen heeft momenteel vier wereldtitels waaronder drie MXGP (2020, 2019, 2016) en een MX2-kroon (2015), en leidt momenteel het 2022 MXGP-wereldkampioenschap met 79 punten.
